When Rita was only 12, her parents announced she would marry Paolo Mancinin. By age 18, she was already wedded and had two sons. Her husband, who was very abusive, was eventually murdered, and her two sons ultimately died. A widow at 36, Saint Rita became a nun in the Monastery of Mary Magdalen. She devoted herself to the Passion and miraculously received a chronic head wound, believed to be caused by a crown of thorns. It bled for fifteen years!
